So here you have Irene, Gerret and Maggie. Gatekeepers and defenders of the realm. Yet they are totally ignorant of the fox, standing in the background, throwing a bit of hip shake and laughing with amusement at their vanity.
Hmmm.

Foggy spring morning. No bourbon at the moment but opinionated dogs and art for sure.

New indoor/outdoor vinyl place mats for the 2014 eating/drinking/present-giving season!
After my two-month retreat at the Carlos Castaneda School of Folk Art and Business Branding for Seniors I have been inspired to take some of my leaf images, deconstruct their narrative context and reconstruct them as kaleidoscopic indoor/outdoor vinyl place mats suitable for picnics, camping and fine dining. I’m telling you they’re awesome, gluten-free, unbreakable and cheap to mail if you’ve got a sibling that lives on the other side of the country and you’re looking for a can’t-find-this-sucker-on-Amazon type gift.
If you’re in the neighborhood you can come on by and stock up, or you can order them here on this website, or here on durland.com, or here on Facebook. Below are your six choices. Sold in sets of four. Click on images to enlarge:
And if you’re still not convinced, here’s what others are saying:
“Casually chic place mats can transform your dining space instantly.” —Crate & Barrel
“Place mats are an integral part of setting a dinner table: they look decorative and are useful for protecting your table from scrapes and spillages.” —IKEA
“Both decorative and practical, place mats are used to avoid ruining & staining tabletops and tablecloths. Place mats can also be used to accommodate place settings.” —Bed, Bath and Beyond
“Vinyl place mats can be an excellent way to enhance or alter your kitchen decor quickly.” —Walmart

Used to be when I’d get a letter from the NRA saying “Final Notice” I’d just ignore it. But these days I’m thinking I’d better start getting my life in order.
You’d think that at the very least the free gift would be like a Kevlar tie or a button that says “I’m not a homicidal maniac. I’m just open-carrying this assault rifle to my daughter’s dance recital.”

A banner hanging outside the River Landing Inn in Saxapahaw. It’ll be there for the Second Sunday event this Sunday (July 13, 2014) from 1 to 4 p.m. Actually, the banner will be there longer than that, but the event is only from 1 to 4. Music, wine, food, and some of your favorite people. For more details, directions, etc. click here.
